The Young and the Restless

Lily and Devon Devise a Scheme to Deal With Billy — and Claire Confronts Summer About Harrison

Monday, May 20, 2024: Today on The Young and the Restless Kyle infuriates his mother, Tucker flounders as Audra dates Nate, and Summer refuses to cut Claire any slack.

At the GCAC, Audra comes downstairs in a slinky dress. Sally spots her and says that’s definitely a date outfit if she ever saw one. She assumes she made up with Tucker, but Audra says her date isn’t with him. Sally’s surprised. She was just ready to go to Paris with Tucker; now she’s moving on? Audra says it’s just dinner, but confirms she’s done with McCall. She needs some fun without stress. “Tonight it’s just dinner with Nate.” Sally has to ask, “Are you sure that you’re OK to do this? It’s not too fast?” What about her career and the company she and Tucker were going to run together. Audra may still try to get Glissade for herself. He deserves to have it taken away.

At Chancellor-Winters, Nate tells Lily he’ll brainstorm how to temper Billy’s power. Lily’s glad to have his help. Devon joins them and Nate tells him he’s sorry his idea didn’t pan out. Nate says he has to head out and admits he’s taking Audra to dinner. Devon and Lily ask, “Audra?!” Devon thought Tucker was with Audra. “Why are you going out with her?” Nate assures them this is social, not professional, and he’s not interfering with Tucker’s relationship. Lily worries that Audra is underhanded. Nate isn’t looking to mess things up with his family again. They tell him to enjoy his dinner then.

Once he’s gone, Devon says it seems harmless enough unless Tucker has a problem with it. Lily agrees, they have enough problems. Devon then updates Lily on Phyllis, who quit before he could fire her. Lily didn’t think she’d stick around anyway. “What were she and Tucker talking about Billy for anyway.” Devon scratches his face and admits he went to Tucker to find out what he knew about Jill when he was working with Mamie. Lily gawps, “Please tell me we’re not in so much trouble that you need him to save us.”

At the Abbott mansion, Kyle closes a big deal over the phone with a Mr. Foley and tells the man on the other end, “Don’t worry about my mother. She will understand.” He disconnects as the doorbell rings. It’s Claire. He’s glad she could make it. Claire asks if Harrison’s OK. He says the boy’s fine and will be even better moving forward, “Thanks to you.” He would like to officially offer the position as Harrison’s nanny. Claire gawps, “Are you sure?!” She says it would be great to have not just a job, but a purpose… to help a kid to grow up and thrive. Kyle asks, “Do we have a deal?” She agrees to start tomorrow. Claire thanks him and says she’ll have to thank Summer too. She’s surprised she changed her mind. “Summer did change her mind didn’t she?”

Tucker hollers into the phone on the stairs of the jazz lounge about needing dirt on Billy Abbott. He disconnects, spots Diane at the bar, and sidles up to her. She tells him to go away, but he wants to congratulate her on her position at Jabot. She’s conquered this town as she’d hoped. He muses about her redemption story and asks what she’s doing there by herself. Diane says she was meeting a client, who was supposed to be there by now. Tucker goes on about the family working together at Jabot. Diane tells him to stop. She won’t divulge anything about their business or family to him. Tucker asks for one thing. Is there any chance Billy would leave Chancellor-Winters and return to Jabot. Diane frowns.

Diane wants to know why he’s asking about Billy. “Is this about another takeover attempt?” Tucker says he’s just looking out for Devon, doing whatever he can to help him. Diane says that as far as she knows, Billy is content working for his mother’s company. She wonders if there’s an issue with him and Devon. Stopping, she decides that she doesn’t want to know or help him. Just then, she gets a call from Mr. Foley. She gawps, “My son did what?!”

At the Abbott mansion, Kyle tells Claire he and Summer had a discussion about her being Harrison’s nanny. She points out a discussion isn’t an agreement. “Summer still isn’t on board with the idea is she?” Kyle made his case but Summer still has concerns. Claire feels that Harrison’s mother should be at ease with whoever is taking care of her son. Kyle tells her that the boy has concerns about her safety. Once he knows she’s OK he can go back to being a kid and stop worrying. Claire would like to help him. Kyle says he needs a pal and confidante. Claire would love to say yes, but Summer has to feel safe or she can’t say yes. Kyle asks her to reconsider. “Harrison needs you.”

Audra meets Nate at Society and his jaw drops. “You look stunning.” He helps her into her chair and she compliments him on remembering which wine she likes. She was pleasantly surprised that he asked her to dinner and wonders if he’s ‘protecting’ her. Nate’s curious. “What’s your current job status? Are you still going to work with Tucker at Glissade.” Audra hasn’t decided yet and steers the talk away from career. They joke about their past conversations where she pushed him to be more ruthless. Nate suggests they keep their conversation entirely personal. They toast to the ambiance, food, and the company.

At Chancellor-Winters, Devon tells Lily that they’ll handle the crisis without Tucker’s help. A man comes in with flowers and a balloon. Devon tips him and then asks, “Who sent flowers?” Lily says they’re for both of them. “I hear your little plan to box me out didn’t work. I look forward to working together. Best, Billy.” Devon calls this immature. Lily points out they went behind his back. Devon would do it again if it meant getting rid of Billy Abbott. With that, he pops the balloon.

Lily gripes, “God, this is so obnoxious.” They figure he’s out gathering forces to use against them. Lily feels betrayed by Jill, and worries she can’t trust either of them anymore. Devon talks about the vote. He’s not upset with Abby, he’s just disappointed in the whole thing. Lily asks if he regrets putting Abby on the board.

At Society, Nate and Audra open up about their pasts and the sports they did when they were younger. Tucker appears and walks up to the table. Audra tells him she’s busy. Tucker wants to go talk privately. She’s already said everything she had to say. Tucker says she didn’t go to Paris without him, that has to mean something. He asks again to talk, but Audra asks Nate to accompany her back to the Athletic Club for a drink. He agrees and they file out. Tucker sits and stews.

Summer opens her suite door to Claire and snarks that she guesses she should congratulate her on her new job. Claire didn’t accept the position and wants to tell her why. Summer sighs. If they’re going to have this conversation, she’ll need a drink.

Diane enters the Abbott mansion and accuses Kyle of humiliating her. She had a meeting set with Mr. Foley, only to find out Kyle had already sealed the deal. Kyle says he pulled off an impressive coup for Jabot and saved her from a boring dinner. Diane hisses that she doesn’t need saving from a client, “Who I need saving from is you!”

In the jazz lounge, Summer takes a sip of her drink and tells Claire to say her piece. Claire says Kyle offered her the job, and she really wanted to accept, but she couldn’t, knowing she didn’t approve. She’s been through hell already. Claire knows she’s caused her pain and now she’s a reminder of Harrison’s abduction. “I do feel lucky to know Harrison. He’s adorable and so kind.” She’s grateful he sees her as an ally. Summer knows Harrison likes her, but that doesn’t mean it’s healthy for him to be around her. Claire wants her to know it would be more than a job to her. She cares for Harrison and would like to be part of his support system. “But only if you approve.”

Sally enters Society and Tucker asks if she has a minute. Sally doesn’t think she does. Tucker could use some advice. Sally points out they don’t know each other very well and warns she won’t betray Audra’s confidence. Tucker just wants to hear that he hasn’t completely blown things with her. Sally doesn’t think he has. Tucker doesn’t blame Audra for being unhappy about the circumstances, but he doesn’t know if something’s going on with her and Nate. Sally says it’s just dinner. Tucker admits he’s jealous. “I love her.” Sally thinks there’s hope for them, but he has to make a change. “If you don’t want to lose Audra, you have to get your act together.”

At the GCAC, Audra apologizes for cutting their dinner short. She appreciates Nate’s patience and understanding. She won’t let Tucker take advantage of her anymore and is ready to let him go. Nate tells her tonight was fun and they should do it again soon. Audra isn’t ready to end it and suggests a night cap in her suite.

At Chancellor-Winters, Devon tells Lily he doesn’t regret putting Abby on the board, he just wishes he’d had a talk with her beforehand. Talk turns to Daniel’s lawsuit. Lily confesses she wants to find some middle ground with him, but this mess with Billy takes precedence. Devon says they can either force him out or kill the merger. “You and I leave Chancellor behind.”

At the Abbott mansion, Kyle tells Diane not to overreact. She fumes that she sat waiting for a client that he knew was not going to show. Kyle says the deal’s made and she can take credit for it when his dad comes home. Diane wants to know why he keeps doing this. Kyle says Foley came to him and wanted to make a deal, but he didn’t think she had the chops to negotiate it. Diane scoffs, “He didn’t or you didn’t?” They argue about her experience. Kyle says it’s not his problem what the corporate world thinks of her. He accuses her of always knocking him down a peg or two. Diane hollers, “Don’t you dare try to turn this around on me.” She loves him but this has to stop. Kyle smiles, “Whatever you say.” Diane tells him not to finalize the Foley deal… that’s a direct order. She walks off and Kyle gets on the phone to finalize it.

In the jazz lounge, Summer respects that Claire cares about Harrison. She wants her son to feel safe but she’s not OK with it being because of her. Everyone else is ready to let go of the horrible things she did, but she can’t. Claire tells her she wants to make up for what happened. Summer recaps what she and Jordan did to the Newmans. Claire can’t deny her part in any of that. Summer asks what she would do in her position. Claire’s not sure, but she knows she’s a different person now. “I’m not a threat to Harrison or to you.” Summer is sorry, but she just doesn’t believe that.

At Chancellor-Winters, Lily tells Devon she fought really hard to keep this partnership on track, but now she kinda regrets it. “How do we fix this?” Devon says, “We get out.” Billy supports the idea. Lily doesn’t think it will be that easy. Jill believes in keeping the merger together and Billy will follow suit. Devon shrugs. They will force his hand. Lily muses that they may not have to if they find the right incentive. “There’s another reason we need to fight Billy and Jill on this. Billy tried to persuade me to push you down to a secondary role so we could run the company together.” Devon asks why she didn’t tell him. She didn’t want to create drama and thought it was ridiculous, but they might be able to use this to their advantage now. Lily could go to him and tell him she’ll agree to his idea on one condition… they let Hamilton-Winters go. Devon asks if she’ll ditch them after. Lily says, “Yeah.” They can have their family company. Devon thinks it could work. Lily laughs at how they’ve come around to Mamie’s idea. Devon says there’s no guarantee it will work.

In Audra’s suite, she and Nate toast as they enjoy their night cap. Nate doesn’t think Tucker would like him drinking his scotch of being there with her. Audra agrees; he wouldn’t like it, but she doesn’t care. Tucker knocks on the door. Audra asks Nate to answer it. She smiles as Tucker takes in the scene. He asks, “What’s he doing here?” Nate says he was invited, Tucker wasn’t. She doesn’t want to talk to him. Whatever happened between them was the last straw. He urges Tucker to accept this and walk away with whatever’s left of his dignity. He closes the door in his face. Nate and Audra toast and drink as Tucker agonizes in the hall.
