Did Melinda Just Incriminate Herself on Days of our Lives?

Melinda was caught off guard when Rafe informed her that Sloan skipped town, and started asking questions.

Knowing that Sloan’s baby swap scheme was about to come crashing down, Melinda was ill-prepared for the fallout on the May 28 episode of Days of Our Lives. Rafe is hot on the case, and when he questioned the newly reinstated district attorney, she had guilt written all over her face.

Melinda Should Have Been Ready

You would think that a crafty woman like Melinda (Tina Huang) would have been mentally ready for any questioning about Sloan’s (Jessica Serfaty) stealing baby Jude (Oliver McLarty), along with an appropriate poker face. Stefan (Brandon Barash) had come to her seeking her help in re-opening Li’s (Remington Hoffman) murder case in order to clear his wife, Gabi (ex-Camilla Banus). Stating that her department would appropriately investigate, but the evidence that surfaced is wholly circumstantial, she sent him on his way.

Meanwhile, Rafe (Galen Gerring) and Eric (Greg Vaughan) tried to find clues as to Sloan’s whereabouts. After searching the apartment, they realized she left her driver’s license, passport, and car keys there. They went to the DiMera mansion, where Rafe asked EJ (Daniel Feuerriegel) if he could use his resources to help track her, and he agreed. The police commissioner felt that Sloan couldn’t have skipped town without help.

EJ flashed back to a scene where he gave Sloan all the necessary papers for her to disappear to the Amalfi Coast in Italy with a new identity and enough money to last a lifetime, provided she never returned and kept the secret that Eric is really Jude’s father. This is perplexing because Italy has extradition, and if Sloan was ever spotted, she’d be returned to the States, and EJ would lose Nicole (Arianne Zucker).

Rafe then went to Melinda, who feigned shock at hearing the baby swap news, and her reaction was less than convincing. She stupidly asked if Sloan claimed that she knew something about the switch. Bad move. She obviously wasn’t prepared for the questioning, despite the fact that she recalled Sloan telling her about EJ’s ultimatum.

Melinda doesn’t seem to be as savvy as she used to be because she should have had all her ducks in a row in case things went sideways, considering she was instrumental in helping Sloan steal the baby. She fumbled for the words to say that she thought the (fake) adoption was all set and claimed to have no idea that the baby wasn’t the one she originally brokered. Rafe clearly didn’t buy much of what she said, and she may have made herself a person of interest because of her nervous and guilt-ridden demeanor.

There Are Other Loose Ends That Could Implicate Melinda

So now the original person who was giving up their baby for adoption could be questioned, which would lead straight to Melinda. EJ and Nicole remembered when Dr. Pierce (Steve Mize) told them that their baby had died. Unbeknownst to most everyone, the doc had been blackmailed by Melinda, as well as paid handsomely, to fake the child’s death. He’s the weak link in all this, and if Rafe and the Salem PD come knocking on his door, he’ll probably fold immediately and throw Melinda under the bus.

Rafe admitted that he didn’t believe the DA knew anything about Sloan’s predicament, and he was most likely going to have a watchful eye on her. If things proceed rapidly, she’s going to be out of a job before she’s even started!
