Manuel Velez revealed why he has not let Ashley Michelle meet his two teenage sons on the latest episode of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? season 8. Manuel moved to Rochester, New York, Ashley’s hometown, but kept his overseas move from his family a secret; however, as Ashley learned later, Manuel had a couple of family members living in New York. Trust issues began building up, and Ashley suspected her partner had ulterior motives for wanting to embark on their relationship.
In one episode, Ashley noted that Manuel’s family in the U.S. wasn’t a bother until they started calling all the time. The couple argued over how much money Ashley should send to Manuel’s family, and he had a problem with Ashley’s career as a witch. Ashley had some of the most out-of-pocket comments during 90 Day Fiancé season 10 Tell All but never questioned Manuel about the kids he had from his previous relationship until now.
Why Manuel Is Hiding His Kids From Ashley
One problem the couple has in their relationship is Manuel’s two sons, whom Ashley hasn’t met. She voiced her desire to meet her future stepchildren in a November 2023 episode, with Manuel expressing he didn’t want that to happen due to the language barrier. The 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? star added that he feared Ashley would lose patience while trying to communicate with his kids.
In the latest 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? season 8 episode, Ashley and Manuel met her mother and sister, who expressed their concerns about him keeping his kids a secret from Ashley. The Rochester native joined the conversation and asked, “You don’t want me in your children’s lives?” Manuel responded quickly, admitting he did but didn’t want to “confuse” them. Ashley also wanted to find out how long it would take before meeting the children, but Manuel couldn’t give her a direct answer, noting a lot was happening back home.

Manuel Is A Dedicated Dad
Manuel has repeatedly shown how much his kids mean to him. When he first landed in the U.S., he demanded Ashley to spend less on herself and send more back to Ecuador(via 90 Day Fiancé). Manuel previously expressed his guilt for leaving his family behind. He was the sole provider, and moving to the U.S. and not being able to work immediately stressed him out.
During the 90 Day Fiancé season 10 Tell All, Ashley’s mom also revealed she had been sending money to Manuel’s family and would help the couple financially. In 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, the duo is still struggling with the same money problems as shown in the teaser of what will unfold later this season. Ashley and Manuel had visited a lawyer to talk about their postnuptial agreement. The attorney asked about Ashley’s debt, and she stated, “About 100k,” which shocked Manuel, who added, “I don’t have to pay any of that.”
Ashley’s Relationship With Manuel’s Kids
Ashley has yet to meet her step-kids, and the details of Manuel’s relationship with the mother of his kids are still a mystery. Manuel left his kids in Ecuador to get married to Ashley in the U.S. Ashley is more than ready to integrate into his family and, more so, to get to know her stepchildren. She noted that she rarely spoke to Manuel’s children and that he was guarded about certain things, especially his family.
Ashley’s Mom Fears Explained
The 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? star rarely posts his children on social media, and the last time he did was January 2. Manuel shared a video of his two boys with the caption, “Always carrying them in the heart. I love you.” Ashley’s mom is worried Manuel could have more than two children. She brought it up during their meetup with the couple, asking Ashley if she was sure of the number of children Manuel had back home.

Perhaps Ashley’s mom asked this because a young girl has repeatedly appeared on Manuel’s Instagram account. Manuel’s family might be a point of contention for the couple, as he does not plan on letting the children meet his wife any time soon.
